Spelling and Typo errors

Is there any way to take advantage of spelling mistakes people make while doing a search ? I don't want to have them on my pages but if I put them in the keywords will I pick up any traffic from the typos. It's a lot easier to rank for a miss spelled word than the actual correct spelling.

I had some posts made in my forums by the users containing some spelling mistakes. It brought in some traffic. But still it might hurt the reputation of the site.

Nowadays the firefox has the inbuilt spell checker which underlines the wrong spellings and people are making much less mistakes then before.

Google has "Did you mean" but I think a lot of people just click on one of the first couple of results. Just thought there might be some way to take advantage of this.

I always bid on misspellings as it's not worth for me creating content on the site, but on PPC it results quite profitable, as they're very cheap kw and the SEO results are sometime not relevant to the term they meant to search.

I think PPC might bring you some traffic that way, but not much traffic will come the other way.

Some webmasters don't even know that if there is a spelling mistake on their site or not.

I had written a small blurb about it here: http://www.nameslot.com/Check-spelli...te-t-1556.html

Let me know what you think about it.

If it's a forum, or a blog with viewer contributed comments, then misspellings can help bring extra traffic. I don't think that it makes a site look unprofessional to have misspellings if those misspellings were caused by viewers and members. But I wouldn't intentionally misspell words so that I might bring in extra traffic, it would be far more beneficial if you did look as professional as you can.
