Meta tags still do work in MSN and Yahoo. I have a formula for proper meta tag set up that works all the time. When you create your title tag, build you primary keywords off of the title tag. When you build your description basically put stop words in the title tag making it a complete sentence. Once this is done you build the actual web site content off of the title, description and keywords. This is just like poetry my friends.

You have the right idea... however how are you choosing your keywords? Any KEI research go into that? And why in the world would you use stop words in your title?

Carry your idea over a bit more... Title / desc / keywords / h1 / h3 / alts / and content along w/ your interior link scheme and you should do well if you have enough back links w/ proper anchor text

Just ranking for any term willy nilly is not a good idea... you need to find out what it's going to do for you if you can get the #1 spot in the SE's and then build from there

I said use stop words in the description not title. Basically what i do is copy the title tag and make it in to a description.

I think, theres no problem with that. The targeted keywords must include also in your title,description and meta keywords.

well thanks for sharing your formula...but how did you choose your keywords to be put on your title?? would you gave an example on how will you create a title??and how will you create a description using stop words??

Keywords are chosen many different ways. I use places like word tracker, some times overture, but mainly I go to competitors sites and analyize the site, keywords and code. Now once you find out the pages you are going to build find at least 20 key words or phrases per page. Each page has a different set of 20 keywords. Arrange them from highest traffic to lowest. Then you build off of that. That will get you started.

Title tag example:
Lets say im targeting domain names. Bleow are my keywords. i just chose four phrases thats it. Look how I create the title. Ill combine all key words that way the search engines will pick up all combinations.

Free Domain Name
Register Domain Name
Cheap Domain Names

Heres what the searchengines will pick up:

free domain name

The key phrases above are all from the title tag right? Well these will also be in your meta key words section. Seei how it comes together. But you and I know domain names are very competative. This is just an example that works for me.

Free domain name registration and register cheap domain names for $7.95.

The description matches the title.

I been doing this for years and it works.

If there is a better way to develop the title tag and meta tags please let me know. Im always learning new things.

I think there is a better way. Think about Powerset, think about Hakia. Think about the personalized search and start writing for the visitors and not for the SE. If I see a title like yours I'll avoid the site because I am sure all I will be able to read is a crappy, repetitive, keyword stuffed content. The Web is changing.

Well my techniques work so I guess I dont know what to say. Everyone has there own technique. If my style works I would have to disagree with you. So tell me why this is bad and Ill change things up a bit.
