Anybody have any ideas they might want to share on how to make SEO and keyword ranking more of a residual source of income?

Once you have a client positioned 1, then what do you charge them to keep them there?

Should the client be charged monthly for that word, a flat fee or ?

They should be charged monthly especially if it is their main keyword. They are making money. Why shouldn't you.

How do you base or choose a rate for the monthly charge?

Creating a pricing system thats fair to the client and worth it for the seo person doing the work has taken a careful amount of consideration. I still don't have it figured out exactly. At this point it slides per client based on what we feel is fair, and that they can handle with what their budget is. You can't charge everybody just $100 or $1000.00 a month. It makes for an interesting trade...

What if they rank #1 for their target term but it doesn't convert into $$$ cash for them... real estate for example... you can rank #1 for certain keywords but if you're in an over saturated market you're lucky to sell a couple homes a year. You're even luckier if you got the lead from an organic listing instead of paying for it with ppc.

Position 1- $100.00
Position 2- $75.00
Position 3- $50.00

I think those prices are pretty easy for most people to swallow.

Set yourself up with an authorize.net account and have it ding your clients credit card re-occuring once a month.

MahattanService - i charge people from $250 to 10000000 a month for my job. I always build one way links from hight pr websites and directories. It gives my clients top positions and if they decide to leave, i let them go. I don't remove any links and they keep positions for a long time. I use their positions later as portfolio to attract more client.
