I have a website <mod edit> and am currently working on another site <mod edit> and i want to try to get good search engine position by posting meaning full posts on as many blogs or forums as i can to help with my SEO position but im not sure if my time is better spent posting on forums or on blogs? anyone have any suggestions on what is a better use of my time? to be honest im not even really sure what the point of a blog is i understand the forum concept so for the time being im going to stick to forums unless someone can definitivly tell me that one is better than the other.

The point of a blog is to build up a strong reader community and to communicate. You are the administrator, you decide what to publish, where to publish and how often. In many cases it is much easier to run a blog than a forum...
Blogs have more readers and the discussion is better focused. Forums are harder to follow... and the value of the link posted in a forum is lower than the value of a contextual link posted in an authority blog.

I believe that the original poster's comment was about building backlinks to his two websites by leaving commentary on other people's blogs and forums, and which was better.

Coming back to this original question there is no difference in my eyes, so long as the blog or forum meets a few criteria:

Make sure that they don't do any cheesy redirects

Look for and avoid posting on blogs/forums where signatures are not allowed

See if the links have 'no follow' on them,

Or where links are encased in javascript so that the search engines won't read them

It's also worth considering how much traffic a blog or forum receives as you will get legitimate traffic simply from people following the links

Best wishes,

Ian C

Ah, here I was about to spout forth some wisdom and Ian went along and nailed it. Nice response, Ian.

That was well explained IAN...I too wanted to know the answer for that ...

But i don't think Forums are for just building few links...we get good knowledge from here and can discuss our doubts in here...

I think both of them can help. Forum sig can help you increase link popularity while blog can be your source of traffic.

It is better to put links on blogs and forums. Blogs provide news on a particular subject. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of most early blogs.Forums is a facility on world wide web for holding discussions and posting user generated content
Both can help with SEO position and can help boost traffic for the site.
