Does target="_blank" pass juice?

I have a site I'm creating that uses a template requiring attribution. The footer of the template contains a link back to the designer's site. Obviously the designer wants the link juice, and I respect that.

The page is designed for conversion. There are no outside links except for the footer link. I was thinking about changing the link to target="_blank" to retain attribution, but I wouldn't if it degraded the value of the link to the designer.

As far as I know it won't cause anything else only open the link in a new window for the ie users.

The target attribute doesn't tell anything to the SE's. In other words, yes, blank still passes juice.

The only thing to be worried about is the dreaded "nofollow" tag, and I believe that only Google uses it at this point.

Sometimes I use both methods just to cover both the the link staying within the same window or opening a new one. Especially on directory or link pages. For instance if you click on the title of the link it stays within the same page, but then if you click on the link after the description its the one that targets a new page.

Its definately a good idea to use the tag because the user stays on your site so they can come back to it later

You're good. It's only if you place rel="nofollow" in the link.

We should not be using this attribute(not a tag) to markup web pages because it is a depreciated ever since HTML 4.01 spec and will not validate. The reason for this is because not all browsing devices support “windows” style navigation and we now have “tabs” where users have the power to choose how they navigate. It often confuses blind and novice users... so please avoid.
