In my opinion placing keyword(s), keyphrases in h1-h3 tags into bold style, higher KW density and keyword rich meta tags are the neccessary instruments to get nice ranking in Yahoo.

I do agree with you. But, most of these are also applicable with Google. But, Yahoo differs in High Keyword Density, which Google left years ago.

To optimize and rank highly on Yahoo!, as with any of the major engines, specific areas need to be addressed. On Yahoo! the major areas are as follows:
* Keyword density
* Site structure
* Backlinks
* Aging

I agree.... and I think Yahoo is more after the onpage optimization and quality backlinks..... That's what I've seen through my experience... Good, informative and rich contents....

I've seen many website in top Yahoo position that don't have high keyword density. That's a wrong assumption that Yahoo loves web pages flooded with keywords. I am not sure what Yahoo really likes, but not keyword density. That's for sure.

The way I do SEO is quite simple, since google is the hardest to rank in, I focus on doing well their, the others take care of themselves automatically. If you rank in the top 20 in google, in yahoo and msn your prolly in the top 10!

Yahoo gives more importance to content. If you have good ranking in google and getting high traffic on your targeted keywords that's good for you.

I think yahoo is more about title, description, meta tags. content keywords used and link popularity. also a DMOZ will help you a lot.

Have others found this to be true? I am in the top 10 in Google for a few different keyword phrases but on Yahoo I'm #57, way down on page 8 or something.
Haven't been able to figure this out.

Not true. My primary site ranks much better in Google than in Yahoo+MSN. Also, I'm getting much more traffic from Google than from anything else. When I started with SEO I thought it's easy to rank in Y or M. But things went another way and since I acquired top positions for competitive phrases in Google I don't care about M or Y anymore.
On the other hand I must say I did some changes on my sites today and am looking how will search engines reflect them in rankings.

For yahoo, it's domain and internal links.

Yahoo is like Google a few years back....
Inbound keyword-loaded links + basic on-page SEO.
Expect domain reputation to become more important....

I feel like sometimes I have to build 3 different sites. One for yahoo, one for google and one for msn.
