Curiosity, I got a keyword that is getting ready to hit the front page its getting over 14k plus search per day, and I'm kind of nervous because I have done some link buying, but not that much, most links were gained through directories, text links on other sites, and have received quite a bit of contextual links from blogs.
Now what I'm nervous about is like google penalizing me for this? I don't consider it black hat, but the other websites on top really don't know nothing about seo, and I take it they've just got links from time, and etc, I'm sure they've done some link buying too, but have gotten links naturally, or through other building them.
I have seen where they have built links there self in several directories, but hoepfully I don't get penalized for this?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. There are a LOT of sites that have paid inbound links, that rank very well, and continue to do so.

Good luck with your ranking

Thanks man, I actually just got done talking to v7n leader (john) about this on the phone, i was getting quite nervous cause I figured he might know a lot about this with his directory getting hammered by google.
I'm wondering if its going to be way harder to reach the top, or hit the front page, like if it gets harder, and harder to go up after i get up there since its such a competitive keyword?

I guess my first question is why you're focused on one keyword?
For example, let's say:
a) keyword X gets 10K per day.
b) 40 related keywords get 100K per day - collectively.
As a webmaster, which would you rather rank well for, a or b? Of course, it would be nice to rank for both
But lets say the effort of getting b) took half the time, and cost half as much, because they were less competitive?

true, but this kind of happen on accident, and I started going for long tail searches, but they wasn't getting any traffic what so ever, then I notice mey keyword was on the 21st page, then went to the 12th page, I found it there on accident, and then I started aiming stricly at that, and now its like right there its on 3rd-4th page every great now and then it will disappear, but when it comes back, its higher position.
I have been adding some other words to my keywords to mixing them up every once and awhile.
