Internal link question

Hi all...

I am trying to figure out while optimizing a website for the best way to build his internal structure.

Lets say that I have a website about sport stuff:

To get into a product I need to follow the next tunnel :

Main page > sport shoes > Man sport shoes > Product name.

Now, I want to add a link back to "sport shoes" in : "man sport shoes" and in "Product name" .

Is it going to help me with optimizing the word "sport shoes" ?

Off course the website is not about sport gear, but it was just an example.

Personally I think this often depends on the specifics. How does it sound to the visitors? Does it read like you've just thrown the word in there? If you were to offer lots of different types of shoes, then "sports shoes" makes sense. If "sports shoes" is all you offer, then I'd stick with "shoes" to remove the clutter from your menu.
