Question Does it count?

My questions are fair and simple: is there a difference between a website hosted on a european server and one hosted on an US server?

Presuming that the website wants to atract users from US and not so much from Europe...

Witch one is atracting more US users? the one hosted on the US or the European one... or there are no differences ... how can i really tell ? my site is hosted on an us server.. thought i live in europe!

yes.. is there a difference... ? does the website hosted on us servers get listed faster ? does US users find the site hosted on us servers better then the one hosted on european servers - presuming the 2 sites have the same content, keywords - i am trying to target US users better then european users... so hosting my website on a US server makes a difference?

It would make sense to have the server hosted in the U.S. if you are targeting the U.S. market.

From an SEO perspective, it shouldn't matter where your server is located.

I share similar thoughts with Comenius. I doubt the geographical location of your sever is going to affect SEO.

However, what it may affect is network traffic. If you know you have more clients in US, you might as well have a US-based server rather than one in Europe. This will improve networking and thus speed up browsing experience.

It doesn't matter whether you're hosting from your backyard in Cambodia or hosting in Nepal.

Google have said they evaluate the IP of a server to determine local ranking:

Quote:
" the move to a US-based server potentially why your site is
longer in the UK listings. See this blog post for more info on how we
detect the country of the site:
http://sitemaps.blogspot.com/2006/07...-us-sites.html

For .com domains, we rely on the location of the IP address. My best
suggestions (although either may be difficult) would be to either
switch the server back to a UK-based IP or move your site to a .co.uk
domain (and redirect the .com to it). "
Your market is the US, and I assume you're using a .com address? If so, it won't affect you.

There are other reasons to host in the country you're targeting. Better response times, generally speaking.

The hosting location may cause problems relating to your ability to rank.
