Web presence suggestions?

Hello all,

I am new here and am looking forward to getting some great feedback from the developer community.

I am currently working with a team of developers on putting together a photojournalism multimedia package for local photograhers. My role in the team is anything related to social networking and PR. Basically it's my job to do what I can to beef up our web presence as much as possible, which, of course, includes, but is not at all limited to search engine optimization. We have already tackled the basics, like myspace and facebook. I am new to social networking and was hoping this community might be able to give me some suggestions for enhancing our web presence or perhaps point me in the direction of helpful resources on the topic. Does anyone have any input? Thanks in advance, I look forward to hearing your responses.

Thank you peter_d for your input, those suggestions were helpful; however I am a bit confused about something. Technorati and other blog tracking sites like IceRocket appear to only track blogs. Our project is not a blog, but instead a photojournalism package. The site will have a feature to allow other non-recruited photographers to add their own photos (via flickr, or something similar), so there will be an element of newly added and updated content--does this still qualify as a blog that can be tracked by these sites? I apologize for my meager knowledge of the blogosphere, but it is exciting to learn about. Thanks again. Does anyone else have anything to add?
