Strange keyword SERP

Howdy,

I posted this in the reviews forum but only got design comments, so was advised to ask you wonderful

people here for some SEO advice. I am happy with the design and layout of my art site but although the site was launched 5 months ago it is struggling with traffic and serps. I get around 30 uniques a day which is pathetic!

I have added to many directories, including some paid ones like aviva and alive etc. I have added url in forum profiles and siggys, including many photography sites. I have built up a link exchange with various related sites (see 'partners' link at end of footer). I have a blog which keeps things updated about the site and photography in general.

I researched a lot about seo on several forums and read the seobook by aaron. I have also had help from another seo guru but we are struggling!

My main keywords are 'canvas art', 'canvas prints' and 'poster art' - yet we are not even showing on the first 10 pages of google uk. However, if you add a relative word before the keyphrase such as 'buy canvas art' or 'macro poster print' I am on the first or second page, sometimes the #1 - go figure!

You have a design site? Then why don't you try promoting it at stylegala.com
Take care, it should be really newsworthy. These guys are really picky!

There are 200+ components in SEO. You can either bang the wall 200 times and go in circles for years...or you can learn from someone who has got 112 Keywords Ranked No.1 and No.2 in less than 3 months..

Don't get too happy / worried at the moment. Currently, the Google servers are undergoing updating process (PR, especially), so somehow the keywords SERPs might be affected. You may noticed it for a couple of days, whereas it may disappear some other days, or on other servers.
