Keyword density

I know some of you get when you hear the phrase "keyword density", but I'm wondering IYO what on page elements do you consider when you think of KD? I guess this would be different per SE, but I'm just looking for an overall answer on this one.

I can see Page title, H1, H2, bold, italics has playing a part in KD. How would anchor text play are part in KD though. I mean any word on the page would be taken into consideration for the density of that word in comparison to the overall total words on the page right, but I don't see how anchor text would boost the density of that word.

Ron,

I've put very, very little effort into ranking www.v7inc.com for the search term "cpanel hosting", but I do rank for it:
http://www.google.com/search?q=cpanel+hosting

I believe that it has something to do with the word "cpanel" being used in anchor text on the page. (I'm not talking about pages that link to that page - I'm talking about it being used in link text on the optimized page itself.)

yeah but how much competition does that keyword get? Not as much as some words you are shooting for I'm sure. Also your site has a crap load of links to it regardless of the anchor text. I do think that anchor text in an incoming link is probably (because no one knows for sure) the most important part of SEO, but my question was about keyword density, although I could care less about it. I'm working on something and I wanted everyone's opinion.

Hmm. I do think that it's just another way to use the word on the page. Of course, I'm not a huge fan of page elements SEO, but I have a feeling that Google weights the word more if it is used on the page in the form of link text.

Just a guess, of course.

John is right. Anchor text is not only important for links to your site from external links, they are probably more important than bold and italics.

Think of it from an SEs perspective. More information on ANCHOR TEXT.
