I've found the secret to on page optimization to be...
1. Run a good rank tracking program like rank tracker almost every day.
2. Make small targeted changes one at a time.
3. After all three SE's have spidered your site re-check your rankings.
4. If your rankings went down switch back whatever change you made a couple days ago. If your rankings went up leave your changes the same.

I've been getting very positive results by doing this.

Make your changes gradually! Remember that there are other search engines and big domains in addition to G. Many times people think only about Google, and forget about other SEs, directories, and sites. I think it is important to promote a site on other SEs, and directories.

For all of the mountainous information about PR, Links, Longtail, Contexual, Directories, Bold face, Font's Colors, it's just a lot.
With my latest blog..I am just concentrating on building a good resource and having some fun.
I really don't care what Google "allows " me to have when it comes to PR, as long a people are reading, RSS subscriptions stay steady, and I have the respect, contributions and participation of others in the niche', the rest means nothing to me.
I can still monetize it just the same, and it's the way I want it.
I'm just writing what I feel makes it good, and complete for readers, and if I get around to , title tags, and all that Jazz, so be it.
I must be doing something right, people are reading.
(of course this is personal, not for clients)

Agreed, google may have the biggest stick for the time being, but traffic is traffic, and done right you can optimize (at least to a certain extent) for most search engines. From what I've read optimize for google primarily, but still take into consideration the criteria for other se's

Use title, and description meta tags on all pages. For most SEs, title and description tags are very important. Also, use unique tags as far as possible.

Thanks Peter!

I appreciate your insights as a moderator. I agree with you about knowing the best Keywords to use in content of website for SEO will increase traffic.

Sometimes it can be a challenge to compete with some of the other more experienced people on-line. Below is a tool that my wife and I believe in and use regularly to help sort out the best solutions with IM.

Have a great day!

SEO don't take a einstein to figure out, but what it does take is lots of work ethic and persistencey it could be actually be 1 year before you start to make cash, that is the problem a lot of people settle working for someone else, or always take easy ways out when big majority of the time working hard with no payback at first will lead to a larger success and a more profitable career by far.

Talking

That this is a never ending learning process but that's what makes it fun. The fact that a strategy that worked for one site will not work for another just intrigues me....

>What's the most important single piece of information you know that would help people new to SEO?<

Placement without purpose is the epitome of irony.

To get a first page placement without making sales is a waste of everyone's time. SEO means nothing if you don't convert.

You are better off spending $ with a ppc campaign until you can get at least get enough conversion stats to be able to estimate a return, than you are spending 1 hour trying to understand SEO.

Understand marketing, sales, value propositions and conversions. THEN learn SEO.

There is an expense involved even with "free" traffic,(there is no such thing I guarantee it!), and if you generate traffic without converting, you may be the smartest SEO and the dumbest businessman on the planet.

To know more about how the search engine crawled or indexed keywords in the search engine. Search engine is the way of promoting your site online through search engine such as Google, Yahoo and MSN.

If you really want to know what are the most important, relevant pages to get links from, forget PageRank. Think search rank. Search for the words you'd like to rank for. See what pages come up tops in Google. Those are the most important and relevant pages you want to seek links from. That's because Google is explicitly telling you that on the topic you searched for, these are the best.

This quote hits home for me, I agree with you Peter. Many others however would concentrate on the PR instead. Always has been.
