question about backlink

i have a very simple question related to backlink of a site:
Google webmaster suggest aswell as other search engine that to check your backlink you need to write on a querry for example link:www.abc.com
but if i simply right my url on the search engine it shows all of my links placed on different locations, my simple question is what are the backlinks is it link:www.abc.com results(which shows very little result) or simple url www.abc.com results(which shows very location whiere my links are placed)

link searched as xxx.abc.com will show your links in more pages in content and everything but all dont count as backlinks by google.
The correct backlinks can be seen in the type - link:http://xxx.abc.com

eg. my link http://w ww.nobledirectory.com/blog/blue-horizon-template-for-phpld-20-and-306.html is shown in feeds page http://ww w.linksarena.com/blog/comments/feed/ and is shown in google when searched for www.nobledirectory.com directly.

But when searched for link:http://www.nobledirectory.com then we wont find that feed page.

OK alright, but if you see my website you will find many external links, my links is also placed on others site but after doing all linkexchanging i still cant see my backlinks growing.why?

Typing www.abc.com in your search box is just a normal search not like the link command link:www.abc.com it will show all your backlinks that has been indexed by search engine.
