did anyone else have trouble with seting up sitemaps? i'm no coder so i don't know what i'm doing and I read things like "make a space-delimited text file" in googles sitemap tutorial/template and i feel helplessly lost.
does anybody know any good sites the speak in laymen's terms?
thanks

Even creating some simple sitemap pages like, sitemap.html and sitemap.php and other formats can be helpful and all search engines will be liking them, Google sitemap too is recommended.

What is most frustrating is how long it can take to generate the XML sitemap everytime. Many of my sites have more than 100,000 pages, it can really take some time to generate these sitemaps.

Get the sitemap to update automatically without having to upload or download by simpling displaying the values server side SQL.
If you do not have a database driven site to do this then do not bother becuase your site is unlikely to benefit from quicker indexing given to higher PR sites.

It depends on your website. For some it may take as little as 4-5 hours scanning a website that size. However, something worth trying can be to host your website at localhost. When creating the sitemap, just ask the program (at least my - supports this) to use a different root address (e.g. your domain name instead of your localhost address).
