PageRank. *gasp* That's how a domain with massive links to its home page can have a deep page with no external IBL rank relatively well.
|
Right.
I'm getting at recency, especially to do with news/blog sites.

I've only been there once, back in 1986 or 1987, but it was a beautiful area. Lot's of nature and I think I recall the streets being a bit wider than in Tokyo.
You ever come back?

I got a link from the wwww.virtual library ( http://vlib.org/) on one of the inner pages. The home page has a GB PR of 9, my link is 3 deep with a GB PR of 6. Will that link give me domain authority. I am suffereing from the ageing delay penalty, so will that link be discounted?

HalfDeck/John - your opinion on this?
My question is why that result a) entered so quickly and b) dropped out?

I am no expert on SEO and all that jazz. But, I have been noticing things like that Britney story ranking high right off, and then fading off into the sunset. Like for example with my own site. I'll do a news story about some famous person or a recent event, get a few links to the story, and rank super high in the SERPS for the first few days. Then, it fades off and drops out. I think its got something to do with freshness, and the authority of the site. But I haven't figured out why the heck I see results like this.

The last time I went back there was like 15 years ago. A ton of great memories...I'm thinking of re-visiting again one of these days. It would be a no-brainer if I wasn't so swamped with work. I'm my own boss though, so I guess anything is possible.

I think that all the search engines assign a score to each website, for fixed factors that don't depend on keyword searchs, i.e. depends on links, domain age, traffic, quantity of content, reputation of domain registrant if any
Plus another score, dependent on the query run,
Perhaps the two scores are then merged
A site which scores very high on the fixed factors, might well do better than it should when the overall scores are computed,
ergo, bbc pages about programs about my niche used to out gun me in searchs in my niche, twas quite sad actually
Just my guess work

I was under the impression that Google takes the length of registration into account.
ie: a domain registered till 2012 carries more weight than one registered till 2008, in the same category.
(Is that on subject, or should I just sit back and listen? )

I don't think that's the case at all, I registered mine for 10 years and I am heavily penalized for age of domain. I agree with the legendary John Scott. I think it is based off of many factors, mainly date of initial Google index and in bound link age are the two biggees that come to mind.
That is a good point though, I have heard that before and I could be wrong, any thoughts on length of registration?

Well what is the purpose of Google applying and getting approval as a registrar?
Do they have something else up their sleeve?
