Does it matter if a UK targeted site is hosted in the US?

Hello,

With regards to SEO/SERPs - does it matter if a UK targeted site is hosted in the US? I'll be using a .co.uk domain.

Thank you

Mark

I've never had problems with .co.uk domains being on servers outside the UK,
the big problems tend to occur when it is a .com domain which is hosted
outside the UK.

On saying that, I did have a .co.uk site a few years back which seemed to bring
in a lot of Austarlian hits. On closer inspection I found it was on Australian
servers, which seemed to imply it was ranking better on google.com.au than
it would have done if not hosted there.

I agree totally untill about 3 days ago my site was hosted with 1and1 in Germany, I noticed that my Google.de rankings were higher then any other Google bar the .co.uk. Like Sim64 has said the only time it causes real problems is if you do not have a .uk domain name.

I had this same problem at the end of last year with a .com domain hosted in Germany (with 1&1).

In my experience you either need a .co.uk tld (hosted anywhere) or a UK based server.
