What if you start with low quality BL's
I would like to hear your opinions about starting link building with low quality or spam BL's.
What is happening with new sites which get a lot of spammy inbound links. (let’s say 10000 links from free directories or whatever)
Google push those sites into filters and they have much more to prove themselves, right ?
I know that it is good to start with high quality BL's but what if you buy some site with bad link profile ...

If the linking comes from low value sites, then the results will be poor. If a lot of sites are using the same low-value link sources, then those links will be easy for Google to spot and discount.
Avoid the low-value footprint

I think you should make sure that you dont get anymore low quality links and compensate the ones you have with quality bl's.

i think it's better if you have high quality links.. think about your PR, how site's PR will increase if you are in low quality BL.

You didn't understand my idea .
If you buy a site with 10000 crappy BL's then you got to do a lot harder link building work, and google could put your site into some filters because you have a site with very bad link profile and bad history I would say
I could not affect on sites previous BL's..
Do you agree that google could put those sites in some filters or what ?

It a bad idea to begin with. Try to get links from authoritive sites that are relevent to the content of your site.

So is submitting to free directories a bad thing? I thought this would help with link popularity.

Just check their quality.
I would rather submit my site to 5 quality directories than to 10000 free directories.

I agree. Just check the quality of the directories if all links were related. And it doesn't look like a link farm.

So....If you are not able to find very many sites in your niche' or similar, and the ones that are there, are either decent quality and too corporate , and would never swap links with you, or low quality and you don't want them as a link.
What's the best course of action?
Google say's you need links, but is it better just not to have very many links rather than have a bunch of suspect or low quality links?

Highest quality links for whatever fits in your budget. If it's zero, then pick and choose your free directories wisely =) As previously stated, would rather have a few great high pr links than a ton of crap ones~

there are many difference between spammy links and low quality links.
Get low quality links (no related and with low page rank) is more important than nothing. Google will not credit your web site much but it will credit your web site something.
Furthemore, people can rank well even whith low quality links because they play the number game (example linkbaiting where you will get many low quality links) more low quality links with anchor text can make a result.
