host sites on different IP addresses? Myth?

I see a lot of ads/posts for directory submitters boasting that "all the directories are on unique IP addresses" so I assumed this was of some SEO value.

But, the other day I asked someone who I consider to be fairly knowledgable on the subject and he told me it was a "myth", that it made "no difference at all to the search engines".

Now today another person tells me that while it may not matter to the submitters it will make any links I place on these sites pointing to one another SEO-worthless if they sit on the same server.

Anyone know the verdict on this?

Thanks in advance!

My experience leads me to believe that there is definitely more benefit to links f they are spread out across different IP's.

That's what I was afraid of...

Looks like I'll be packing up and moving a couple sites again.

It makes sense to me that google would have a way of noticing when numerous links were grouped together on an IP or a select few.

Appreciate the feedback!

Unique ip's do count for more but there is no harm in same IP linking because many major websites with multiple sites do it, but is it really worth it for you? I mean you will gain how many... 2 to 10 unique IP links? Thats a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of your linking strategy so why bother?
