Digg, Netscape and Reddit etc...

Does anyone know how these social networking sites actually look at the IP's where people are submitting from?

For example, if Im at work and I submit a story and then a handfull of people I work with all go and vote for the story under their own accounts can that cause a problem., since we are all on the same IP block more or less, just the last few diggits are different?

According to a recent report by some Reddit users, it’s not possible to vote reciprocally when you are on the same network as the other user. One user points out that he can vote on a link but after he refreshes the page, the vote is gone.

I'm not certain about Digg but I know Digg goes by user name on their site. Whether it checks the IP as well I'm not sure. It kind of debunks the system though if you're digging your own article 100 times though.
