Free hosted PR 4, How, Why, and What will be the difference this time.

I started a blog on wordpress.com. 4 months ago

Obviously no big SEO done, but I did, develop a little content and posted everyday.
On the latest update, after I moved that blog to self hosting, the PR came back as PR 4.
A little stunned. I didn't really do anything special, and I had almost no back links outside of free directory submissions.
Now, my questions is, Do free hosted domains like [someblog.wordpress.com], have a leg up when it comes to SEO?
And how was I able to get a PR 4 without many quality back links, and in less than 2 months?

Now that I am self hosting, should I just continue to do the same thing? Which is basically just put out content, and not put so much emphasis on what I would normally do?

Strange situation, I am a little perplexed.

Here is the old bloghttp://thisoldhouse.wordpress.com

Here is the new one: http://www.124bpms.com

Can someone tell me what would have been the deciding factor to affect the PR the first time around based on what little I did to get it?
