directories hurting website

If someone was to submit to tooo many directories like 1000's of them would this hurt anything? Some are lower quality, and other are high quality.

Cant say anything..

few people complain of thier site going to sandbox if they get too many high backlinks instantly, but i never got anything of that kind and i do get my site submitted to about 1300 -1500 directories..

there been people getting 3k links in 4 days, and never hit the sand box.

IMO, it's not good to submit to too many directories per day. a great increase in your IBLs in a short period of time can hurt your SERPs

Out of the 3k links how many will SE take into account? I am guessing 0.

Always hand submit to good sources.

That's correct don't overdo submission to directories per day.... It is like eating and eating and eating.... will stuff the stomach.

Just a choose quality directories for your site. I think it will not hurt your site.

Try to get links from different resources - not only directories.

If you only focus on directories I assume that google would not value these much.

I have never seen directories hurt rankings except when the directory submissions are done in a stupid way - i.e., all of them with the same title and description.

Well, backlinks can't hurt a site, but if Google's software picks up too many links too fast (especially as JohnScott said with same title and description), your site may be sandboxed due to spam.

That was the answer I was pretty much looking for, which typically any links with to much of the same anchor text, or the same pattern with the words can devalue it after awhile, or possibly penalized for link spam, but then again that would take a lot, and thats hard to say.

I've seen websites that use the same anchor text over, over, and over never been penalized, but will throw in some off words every once and awhile to keep things looking nice.
