Is it possible to get 1000s of keyword phrases in the top 10 in Google?

it's easy as hell, and now, with the Universal Search, it's going to be far and far easier. I don't understand why to limit a site potential to just thousand of keywords and not millions (long tail excluded), losing this way a lot of traffic

The posibility of getting those positions is relative to the work that will be done. And i am talking about the good work .... not blue SEO or black SEO.

It is the easy thing.
1000 keywords you need to get 100 webpages and every web page is optimized for 10 keywords.
second solution:
1000 keywords you need to get 200 web pages and every web page optimized for 5 keywords.
third solution:
1000 keywords you need to get 1000 web pages and ......

fourth solution:
1000 keywords you need to get 1000 anchor text and .....links for each anchor text.
it is not impossible but you need time, effort and budget.
