How do I know that a page is indexed?

Get incoming links. You will know if it is indexed when you do a site query for your domain.

It depends on what website you will put a link to your website. If that website is popular and bots crawl it regulary, then you have a chance that it will be indexed quickly.

set up google analytics on the site as well (more so you can at least see whats happening: http://www.google.com/analytics/

Yahoo directory (paid listing $200) is historically a good place to put your URL.

But linking from other popular sites is the best way t start it all off.
Try and get sites that are related to yours, ie if you sell furniture dont link from a viagra site etc not good.

You can build a blog at blogger or the best way is to get links from reputable forums such as this forum.
I think you have do that.

I thought the footer signature idea only worked if the post was near the top of the forum, as the web spider wont index every page in the thread?

I am sure there was a thread about this awhile ago?

improve your link popularity...when the site that has your link with them was crawled then your site might get indexed by SEs...

For new site then links.

For an established site either good PageRank or PageRank + Sitemap.

Also for new pages always link to them from the homepage where possible or at least from a second level pages.

Links from forums is the fastest way to get indexed. If you want your inner page to get indexed try to get more links for inner pages.
