Yes. They are scouring whois info and they submitted patent applications some time ago describing different ways they would use domain ownership (and age) in improving their algo.

Hmmm, OK, I learned something today. Wow sometimes I think Google is just too thorough LOL

So you are saying if the owner of the web site changes it will be penalized in the Google rankings? So if I die and leave my web site to my daughter, as soon as she changes the owner name it won't be as valuable in Google's eyes even if the content stays relativley the same?

And if that is true how do you know when your site is good enough to be able to post your information on higher page ranks.

No, I'm saying it's *possible*.

For example, Google can use domain ownership to analyze linking patterns amongst all sites owned by the same person. Look like a link farm? Bulk link seller? etc....

drewski, I have no idea what you are asking, but if you have a new site, promote it as best you can and don't worry about PageRank.

Besides, buying domains is fine. PR is one factor people like to consider, and it's a nice bonus if a domain has it. There are many other factors to consider, however.
Most certainly I agree, specially old domains, as long as there relative to your niche

There are a number of sites that can check the backlinks to your site. Some of them which I use often are backlinkwatch.com and livepr.ezer.com
