Reasons to learn SEO
Hi all,
Can any one tell me why we are learning SEO. I mean what is the main reason behind learning SEO. As far as my knowledge is concerned, we are doing SEO to boost SE ranking, increase profit & sales.
Is there any other reason for dooing SEO. If yes then pls share with me.

It's like learning the tech side of any other business.
If you own a 7-11, isn't it beneficial for you to learn how to fix your own ATM, rather than call a service guy out everytime it needs paper?
If you own a Bar, shouldn't you know how to pour a drink?
This is the same. If you want to publish a website, shouldn't you know how to run, and market it?
I know what you are getting at though. Sometimes it seems that things such as PR are more of a status symbol in the web world , than the actual on paper benefit to the owner in terms of cash money.
A lot of people seem to be hung up more on numbers, (Traffic), than profits, while others only care about short cuts that they think will land them in the black.
I listen to some of the posts, and they equate them to the scene in 'Castaway" when Tom Hanks proclaimed proudly that he had finally made fire
However it is a long difficult process, and when you do see some progress, it is full filling even if it doesn't mean money right away.
I am sure anybody that been around for a while, will tell you that what they know now, compared to when they first put a site online is completely different.

When I started Natural Elements I head something like that "put a site online and make money" lol this person did not know the sytem.
What I can tell you before any results I have always underestimate the time, the money and the work. The SEO is necessary for serious business, there are the easy way and the hard way.
Hiring a SEO is the easy way, but when I heard "I will optimize 3 keywords for $3500 set up and $350 per month" I've got a big smile on my face, and my answer is NO period. Can you imagine to optimize 3 keywords when selling 200
products?
The hard way is the better in my opinion, because you can understand what you are doing, and you master completly your e-commerce. Sometimes your SEO is off and you must find the way to put back in track your site.
Small business/E-commerce owners need to do everything even the SEO to survive.
I will never thank enough John Scott and this community to give some excellent tips on this forum.
I am not an butt kisser, but John has a lot of merit to share his expertise with us, that helped me a lot. He is also very flexible and open minded event if English is not the first language. I apology to all, because often my English is very bad and my posts are not deleted.
Anyway, you cannot run a site wihtout SEO.

It's just a hobby like Golf or basket weaving. Plus when you go out to night clubs you can pick up chicks with your SEO knowledge.

You learn SEO because you learn how to create a site that's useful for you and your visitors and liked by the SE. You learn SEO because it is challenging and fun. You learn SEO if you like to compete and you learn SEO because there's always something to learn...

I can't figure out if this is a serious question or not... TopSEOfirms? as a username and why do you need to know SEO?
So that you can optimize for your clients?
someone didn't think out the business plan very well IMO...

NeO, you don't need to be so harsh . To be honest, I like the question. It ads spice to the conversation here. Some people learn SEO to start an online business, others learn it because they believe that DIY SEO is cheap...
