SEO Basics

Before you go asking, "How do I get better rankings?" please read a little:

Step One
The first thing you might want to do is optimize your pages. This is assisting search engines in judging what your page is about and what keywords are most relevant. The basics of SEO Copywriting are spelled out here: SEO Copywriting Basics

Step Two
SEO copywriting isn't going to help you with the really good search terms. For those, you'll need to understand and employ anchor text and inbound links.

The first place to start getting links is by submitting your site to web directories. This includes niche web directories. As many as possible.

The first steps in the process are spelled out in John's Half-Assed Guide to Search Engine Submission.

Before you even start to expect high rankings, follow these two steps.

Be sure to type something humorous in the comments area.
But will this help with my ranking (joke!)

You may also want to add the Yahoo add URL link on this page.

I got a bunch to add, but if I add them it won't be half-assed any more and I'll hafta think up a new title.

I have never heard of this INDN Network. I am rather sceptical but since $100 is cheap for us in the UK I am keen to submit my non profit site. Can anyone see where our listings will go cos I can not find samples of sites.

I think it's related to Searchking so I wouldn't touch it myself.

Gracklefish looks like quite a superb resource - "the directory of directories" - I never knew it existed, and already finding some interesting niche directories I never knew about.

The INDN Network includes 110 directories. Independent directories.

They are independent directories. A couple of the niche directories are hosted by searchking, but none are owned by searchking.

It's the best value in directory submission out there.

sem,

Submission to 100+ directories for $100, and you're not convinced? I'd still pay it if it was several times that. A lot of places take $100 for submission to just one directory. This is 100+ directories.

You can find them yourself with a little research. There are African American niche directories, webmaster niche directories, women's niche directories, etc - they are all independently owned and operated, and the sign up to get submissions from INDN and share in the pie.

If you submit to INDN, the submission goes to each and every associated, independent directory. But it may not fit in every one. It may just get included in 20 or 30 of the directories. It's still do it if it just got included in one.

Hey John,

Nice work on the JH-AGtoSES. I would like your opinion on the last paragraph.

I have read that many SEO's are stateing recently NOT to submit to Google but instead let them find you during their crawl.

Does it really matter which road you choose?

Tim

I don't think it makes a difference one way or another. I seriously doubt Google would penalize sites for using the submit page. But also, if you submit and don't have any IBL's, it isn't going to do much good either. Personally, I haven't submitted to Google for as long as I can remember.

I have been asked this many times from family & friends about having to submit your pages google to get your pages indexed - but like John, I myself have not submitted any of my sites pages to google since way before our new site was uploaded, and that was way back - 2 - 3 months infact and all pages are indexed.

Google will crawl a site that has a effective linking structure..
