Really well thats not happened with my last PR update. I just went on a paid link word cloud spree. All of my PR on websites jumped atleast 3.
I think its not as important as you guys think. If it is then why did my PR jump on all my websites?

your pr would get little or no effect until both website has same theme and little no of links on link page. google is going to be more and more intelligent. now buying high pr link has no value in the eyes of google.

Congrads on your acquiring. Now you will be able to check google.com reaction on paid links yourself. I hope everything will be fine.
Good luck

It will have a positive impact on your pr.
..but I don't think that it's a good idea to announce that you've just bought a link - with Google's anti paid-links campaign going on.

I wouldn't focus so much on page rank, remember the GB PR is three months old and the site could have went down, for example I got a link on a page rank 8 directory, "Starting point", my link is only one page in from the home page, carries a GBPR of 6, but yet the page I am on hasn't been indexed in almost two months. I am thinking something might be going on negatively with them. I think getting links from directories that have attained "authority" status is the sure fire way to go. Here is a recent post about that: http://www.v7n.com/forums/google-for...-status-g.html

I have never really understood how Google can see the difference between a paid or free link. Many directories offers free or paid inclusion, how in the world does Google know which is which. The cloud links may be concidered as link farms, but in my experience these links seems to have a positive PR impact.
Many say that the Google PR does not matter so much anymore, but very few seems to live by the rule. I think most of us, including myself, look at the PR especially if you are thinking about buying a featured listing. Speaking for myself I am not interested in paying $30 for a featured listing on a PR0 site/directory, but for PR7 its different. Exceptions are on authority web sites, back links from these sites have more value whatever PR.
So Google and paid links does not scare me much - BUT for Gods sake do not tell my wife about link buying .. thats a lot more scary scenario, she can even check my bank account ...

let's say google is against paid links, what if someone placed or bought a link for you (without you knowing or you didn't give him any consent), just to give you the worst possible consequences of buying paid links, would google ban you? And what will be your excuse then?

You will not get banned for having your link on paid or free sites. Even if it is link farms! The reason is simply that if you would then everyone would go do that with all their competitors sites and hell would break loose.
So there is no need to worry as long as you do not link back to link farms or banned sites.

You need to keep it under the radar as Fishkin puts it...

Right, if it's a good directory like v7n you are not buying a link, you are buying a review. Quality directories only add the best web sites, and if they are just adding anybody then you shouldn't be associated with them.
