What creates an authority site?

Age?
Backlinks?
Visitors?
Pageviews?
Pages Indexed?
Something else?

age+great content+interesting topic will produce all the things mentioned above and with enough marketing and depth you can become an Authority. I think you also need a big web site with sub domains and a multi-faceted site, like a forum and blog using a sub domain.

An authority site is a resource for its visitors each time these "land" on its pages. I'd say content is what defines an authority site. And the mind behind the content: that special someone who is able to answer every question from the visitors, who knows how to network and how to give.

In the eyes and mind of an seo an authority site is a site that is ranking good for numerous keywords, and well established. To build your trust rank with then the search engines and authority you need good quality links, I'd suggest getting these links from old age domains.

Build your site, and brand it then the authority will fall into place

yes they're right content is very important in a web site.. visitors will visit your site if it has good content and there's a big chance that they'll come back.. also the keywords that you will use in your content for indexing and ranking in search engines.

It's content - authority sites generally have more content and more pages than other sites.

Content would be king in my eyes. Backlinks are nice, but no readers give you no authority regardless of what others say. If you've got the content, others would fall in place. A few links with reputable sites don't hurt either.

not must be a big site. not must be a old domain.

i had seen a small coupon site with just few small pages, and not updated for months. gets an authority in google... which i start to feel sick with it.
