And what about the discovered website??

Where the total description of the research has been mentioned?? Hmm..??

Peter as you say yourself...do you have a proof
A fair question, certainly

In the affiliate game, there were people using the same feeds and strategies. Google would identify footprints, and take the whole lot out. Also see DMOZ clones.

These approaches work for a while, but when Goolge identifies a pattern they don't like, it's easy for them to target that pattern.
That's why some of the most experienced SEOs I know avoid footprints.

I'm not saying link hoarding using nofollow will get you taken out, but it will leave a fairly obvious footprint. Even using nofollow outside of blog software sends Google a message that says "this webmaster knows about SEO". Google is not in the business of rewarding SEOs (SEOs compete directly with Google), so put 2+2 together.....

I think this could be the basis for a great post on creating proper robot exclusions.

I'm referring to a site with no outbound linkage. That's going to look odd, and unlikely to be classed as an authority.

I also dislike it on a personal level. I try and avoid linking to such sites. If they aren't passing the love on, they should expect no love in the first place.

I agree with Peter, that is the kind of stuff that is done to artificialy manipulate the search results. Just link out to quality, useful sites that will benefit your readers and don't worry about link juice. Look, v7n and other excellent directories link out to thousands of sites and they manage to maintain decent page rank. If you build your web site for your visitors and not for robots why would you even care about no-follow tags. If you think you should slap a no-follow tag on a link then maybe you shouldn't even have the link on your web site in the first place.
