Seven ways your site can be sabotaged in the SERPs

There is a lot more of this "reputation management" SEO going on these days.

Seven ways your site can be sabotaged in the SERPs

Neither Scott or Duke will say just how much they receive for their sabotage services, though Duke says his base rate is around 3,000 pounds (about $6,000) a day, with extra charges for especially labor-intensive jobs. He cites one assignment, reducing the search engine rankings of a film's negative reviews, which paid in the tens of thousands of pounds.

Interesting article. I guess anyone who tried these tactics would either have to have:

1) A huge farm of low PR sites that they can use to pulverize a site. However, Google could counter by discounting all links from sites with low PRs.

2) Have a good set of high PR sites, with equal power to a huge set of low PR sites. However, if Google detected this nuisance, they could penalize these sites for bad behavior and remove them from their index.

So I guess it would be a risky proposition to try negative SEO, though I am sure that it works some of the time.

Agree with you. Black SEO works not really good. It works time by the time. I not use it.

Harsh! My hobby site is a film site and I have had nasty emails from the cast of one film and if they new about this I am sure they would have considered it. I am not saying this practice is impossible however it may just be a PR stunt to raise the profile of the people in question.

Pretty interesting article. I haven't looked at seo from this point of view, but I guess it can be really effective.

It's nasty to do such kind of things though.
