.net vs .com
I have a buddy who is trying to get some rankings with his website. His domain name ends in .net. Is that going to hurt him with SEO or does that not make a difference?

Thanks John,
One other question. Is there anyway to change meta content without knowing who built the site, and how to get into it?

if you don't have access to it (site), to it's files, you can't.

For SEO ,.com or .net is the same ( and .net .org seems to be better for escaping from sandbox and less supplemental results- this is my experience only)

Well it doesn't matter what tld you have. Going in sand box(the google age filter) and supplemental index is a totally different thing!
Well pages go supplemental because of duplicate content and when you drop the links to your pages which were once linked to it!
Well it's a temporary problem and could be solved by removing the duplicate content and again linking to your pages.

.com is more memorable but as John has said, it makes no difference to a search engine.

Do you have the access? If yes you can and if not, you can't, and about the .net and .com they are both fine so don't worry about those two!

Actually there has been lot of confusion regarding .net and .com domains. But I have read somewhere that those who are saying that .net is not good for SEO they are wrong.
I dont remember the keyword but for that I saw one site was on number one and it was .info domain. So it will not hurt your ranking if you use .net domains.

When you are trying to brand your domain the .com is better because it is always assumed that it's a .com. Also, watch out for the .com version if you have a the .net domain. You don't want to be giving your competition free traffic.
Here's an example. Remember last year when there were PartyPoker.net advertisements on TV. They did that to get traffic to their .com domain. There weren't direct links from their .net to their .com site for legal reasons. They correctly assumed that people were smart enough to go to the original .com version..
Cheers!

It does not matter whatever the TLD is, .net, .com, etc.

I think the TLD matters only if you're focus is country-specific. .co.uk, .hk.
There is no difference in .net and .com

From an SEO perspective, it doesn't really matter. Albeit, more people remember .com than .net.
If more people recall your site, I suppose that means they will link to the right site... hence it does have an indirect effect on SEO.
