When Did You Start Ranking Sites?

And did the SEO strategy you followed work as expected?

I'll start.

I got a site ranked #1 in Infoseek in 1996. And it took two minutes.

I didn't have a clue about search engine optimization. I didn't even know there was such a thing. But I discovered this cute little hack - you could copy the source code of the document at #1, paste it into your document, add a few keywords, get an instant crawl and SERP update, and viola - #1!

Shame it isn't that easy these days, eh

For me, it did so. My latest project took 6 months until my site went to the top10 for 2 most important phrases (semi-competitive phrases). However, my visitors see my site for other phrases as well . And this is the best thing about quality SEO... If you do perfect work you will find yourself ranked for more than primary phrases.

Low-competitve phrases can be taken over in 6-30 days. That's why I am focusing on very specific phrases as well . They usually don't attract thousands of visitors but are very good source of profit.

And 1 site which I am working for got good rankings for very competitive phrase (235 000 000 competitors, it is high-competitive phrase) after 4 month. But it is an old site, which is very important in Google.

For SERPS inhighly competitive words(1-4 million), about 2-4 months .
for SERPS in range 100K - 300K about 7 days.
Its up to many factors like accumulation and speed of backlinks amount.
for me

I got my first number 1 (my first ever rank, too) in January 1999. I'd spent the last 2-3 months before that just reading up on SEO, stuff from Bruce Clay and Michael Martinez (much respect to those guys!) so I was pleased to see that I'd got the gist of it. So, yes, it went as expected but there were a few moments of nail-biting waiting to see the results.

I started an NFL Draft site about 6 months ago and went from being unranked to being ranked now at about 30 for the most competitive key phrase "NFL Draft". I didn't really notice much improvement in the rankings until I started getting premium directory links at around the 5 month mark. But it was a brand new domain, so part of the drastic improvement might be from the easing of the aging delay penalty. More than likely it was a combination of high quality inbound links and ageing.

Drewski, unless you add letters to your name it won't "grow". Why don't you combine your two meaningless posts into one?
