Using Seasonal Trends In SEO

One good tip to increase traffic is to think ahead - quite literally.

At different times of the year, search volume spikes markedly in different categories. There are the obvious times of year, like Christmas, when people search for gifts, or Valentines Day, when people search for flowers and chocolate.

You can use Google's Trends tools to do some research.

For example:

Those of you who can get news items into Google's universal results, via blogs and feeds, can do well following this strategy.

Darren at Problogger has quite a good post on this:

I do similar things for news stories.
I think about what is going to be in the news next week and just put
a little page up for it.
This was the last one I did,

tony blair's resignation speech

I don't put any ads on the page or make any revenue from them, but do
sometimes get some good back links.

Hah! You should pre-emptively write about Gordon Brown's resignation. Oh wait no, that'll never happen!

Wow! That's a good read Thanks for sharing!

As a blogger, I believe it is important for us to think ahead of time. Like for example, at my travel blog, each time a holiday is coming (specially Christmas) I write and post articles regarding traveling to a country to spend your holiday vacation. And it's where I promote my site by specifying the type of travel visa that can be applied for, how to apply as well as the requirements. It can really drive traffic!
