Similar website

Hi guys,

I was just wondering something and whether it would work, please let me know your thoughts:

I currently run a gambling portal website and recently it has starting doing 'ok' in SE's and getting a decent stream off traffic from google.

I want to set up another similar website and was thinking about using the same site layout, some of the content but optimizing it for different keywords. Obviously some of the content will change in order to target new keywords but i want to use some of the content from my original site including articles and actual page content.

Is this wise to do and will it work if i use the same seo techniques for different keywords?

I've tried something similar a year ago and I wish i'd sticked with the first site. My advice would be to focus on the current website. If it's doing OK, try to make it better. Squeeze as much as possible and make your visitors come again.

If you're starting a new site google will see it as NEW and won't give it as much credit ..especially if it's a gambling site.

I'm not an expert but this is common sense in my opinion.

I think you might penalize if you do that! cause in my own point of view! that is spamming! cause you will use the same template of website to promote another one!

yes but it will be fully customized to the new site with new logo etc, just change the color scheme

ok! you will just customize the template to create another one! but still you cannot fool google! it is very smart! if you customize it in the same site that would cost no risk at all! BTW! 4 more post and you have you 50 post! congratz in advance!

I don't think you would do well making a clone of content. I run about 5 similiar sites to take the majority of the search results on the first page of google in my niche. I use them to drive them to my main site but none have the same content and it works well. I use the content to drive them to my store. It blocks competitors from getting many places on the front page and helps promote my site!

Make all your contents unique 'coz Google detects those copied and lists those page on supplemental pages which will hurt you site...

If you want, reword the contents from your original site for you to avoid supplemental results. It is ok to have the same template of the website but you must have different content.

ok thanks for the comments and the heads up guys much appreciated, i'll be looking at maybe using the same template but definitely using different content that i'll re-write myself for it
