Alexa vs. Compete . com

I’ve recently come across a site called compete.com. It allows you to compare the visitors my site get vs. my competitors. The data for this site seems even worse than Alexa. Does anyone know how they compile their numbers? Also is there a accurate way for me to compare my site to my competitors as far as how many visitors we get?

Yes it's been added to my webmaster toolbar extension in firefox, but I haven't paid any attention to it really. Where do they get their data?

Comparing blogs whose traffic I know, I've found Compete is more accurate than Alexa. In fact, in my experience, it's hard to find something worse than Alexa. Picking ranking out of a hat would beat Alexa.

Alexa is by far the most innacurate traffic ranking resource. Unfortunately until somebody makes a better system we are dead tied to using it. Compete seems more trustworthy and realistic. I suggest some testing using two of your websites from the same niche. Maybe this way you can determine how accurate they are as you already know the real numbers. Good luck!
