Google penalties are primary method used by Google to control the webmasters and prevent them from using spam techniques to rank high in SERP. The confusion over Google penalties is that not knowing what will cause a penalty. The fear of uncertainty is due to the fact that Google algorithm keeps on changing time to time.

A Google penalty can be decrease in page rank, sudden drop in ranking in SERPs. The ultimate penalty can be complete ban of a website from Google search engine listing. Sometimes ban on host results in penalty to the clients’ site.

Google can raise a penalty for violations of its terms and services (http://www.google.com/terms_of_service.html). There is a set of guidelines with many explicit rules provided by Google for the webmasters, which are meant to be followed (http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html)

As it is difficult to find out why a site has been penalized, I would like to know if there is any tool available that helps a webmaster find out that his site has been penalized by Google.

Yes the tool is called common sense. Build your site to benefit your readers and don't try anything underhanded or devious and you won't have to worry about any penalty. It is not difficult to find out why a site has been penalized, normaly they were engaged in blatant, obvious black hat SEO techniques.

Quality guidelines - basic principles

That's easy, check all the link on YOUR web site, make sure that all the links out from your site are only to quality, unique, spam free sites. If you have a links page you should spend quite a bit of time checking those links on a continual basis. When you check those links ask yourself, "would this web site provide value to my readers?" if the anwer is yes, then nine times out of ten you will be fine.

Google penalizes sites for using blackhat techniques. As cross linking is considered as one of the black hat SEO techniques and the site using this is penalized by Google. Can anyone answer whether sites will be penalized if they are having different IP addresses and are cross linking.

First of google can banned your website but y there are many reasons that google can block those websites which have pornography , illegal images, illedal content and many more but google has sence and it can search facility so feel free and focus on your content quality not quantity , images density not heavy , keywords selection not fully loaded density , and link exchange with page rank 3 atleast , feel free to do this because i m a SEO if you could search on google you can get the results .. jamalseo , jamal ujas , jamalujas
