W3C Compliant?

How important is it to have a website that Is W3C compliant? When checking other peoples websites I noticed that many of them have errors but still get good rankings and a high pr. I noticed that dmoz is compliant. If anyone can fill me in on this that would be great. I went to http://validator.w3.org/ to check my website.

W3C compliant means :

- increase accessibility for people with disabilities
- overall website visitor experience improved
- W3C validation helps you reduce the amount of coding on your pages -
- W3C validation helps by emphasizing the importance of content
- Your website can be accessed from mobile devices such as PDA, mobile phones, etc.
- Different browsers will display your website in the same way, regardless of their architecture and functionality concepts.

W3C compliant is not super important.

I wouldn't stress out about makign your site 100% compliant while on the ohter hand don't make it jumbly garbage either.

It is not super important as long as the facts that I have outlined are not super important to your business (i.e. your website getting accessed from mobile devices, faster loading times, better organized source code, etc.)

Thanks for the responses. I see that there is some benefit to it, but not overly important.

Exactly. It is not vital but it brings certain advantages that should not be ignored.

W3C compliant is very important. Some errors do not effect your ranking much but some they do big time.

W3C compliance is the gold standard to which we should all aim ... you can get by without it, but should strive for it whenever and wherever possible

It's like an application written in C or Delphi. If a programmer does syntax errors, then the compiler won't allow you to pass complitation because the code contains errors.

Why should browsers accept errors? Just because of many people who don't know how to use HTML (and CSS, and so on) properly? It's a big fault that browsers accept errors. No wonder that different sites look differently under many browsers.

In addition, usage of the MIE browser is another story because it does the HTML + CSS code interpretation wrongly.
