Why do pages within a website drop PR?

Hi guys,

Not made a topic in here for a while but this is just a quick one:

I run a website that is currently pr3 which is fine, the pages within the website e.g. /page1/ also had pr3 but for some reason over the past 2 weeks they have dropped to pr1.

The homepage of the site has still kept it's pagerank (3) but i was wondering why do pages lose pagerank, how can i keep these other pages at pr3.

PR loses when you have many pages of your site. The lesser the pages of your site chances the index page will be higher....

Tricky ... you may be penalised for breaking Google TOS worth double checking to make sure your not.

Think google penalized you for buying links from penalized sites.

Do you still have the same amount of IBLs as when your PR was higher ?

I think the main website generally will have a higher page rank than the inner pages as we promote the main website more.

There are several underlying factors... so what's mentioned above may be part of them.

i haven't purchased any backlinks therefore i don't see how penalized websites could have linked to me,

i still have the same amount of backlinks as i did 2 months ago

the sub pages had pr3 for about 2 months and have all of a sudden dropped in pr, someone has mentioned that there is a pr update going on an it will resume back to normal in a short while but not sure how true this is

As for PR update yes it is in the process.It may have happened the paged linked to yours have there PR dropped so there is a drop in PR to you

The PR of your website really depends on different factors like
1) Search Engine Algorithm
2) Your frequency to work on youe site
3) Sites which have your link loosing their PR

Yup this is right, so you must not only consider your own site
but also the one your linked with!

PR dilution through a website is natural

Why, this is fairly straight forward; the majority of links to a website point towards the homepage. The sub pages are linked to the homepage so they naturally gain juice.

This is just my own interpretation based on my own research, as search engines have strict secrecy clauses and change on a constant basis, no one outside these organisations can state anything is factual, however people will always try and convince you otherwise.
