I was discussing same thing with a friend earlier over on Yahoo Messenger. He told me most pharmacy websites are spamming and for this reason a good SEO / SEM campaign can result in top 10 rankings for an affiliate business in less than 12 months time.

I agree almost Pharmacy online are spammers... Many of that I've always seen in other forum I joined...they uses different names to promote their product with same signatures of course.... They are trying to spam the forum even they have been banned.. I've seen here in this forum Spamming their way by putting their sigs that's why Sir John make rules that only members here who have 50 posts to have sig links...

Well yes...this is working...and well i hope it doesn't gets abused by people....long gone the days of 10000 links to your websites...get a couple of hundred trust worthy links and a domain 2 years old...and bang!

Well I just rented about 10.000 links to somebody And no, I do not spam

Related to the topic: I believe that patience is the most important factor in any niche. Having the patience to "grow" together with a brandable domain is surely the recipe of a good future.

I have an authority site and indeed, every single keyword I want to rank for, I do.

I tested this out by making a page to target one of the most competitive keyphrases, Hotel business related, and I'm the only non profit site with a page on the first page of the serps for that keyphrase.

And here is the funny part; That page has only backlinks from my own domain and not even many, maybe 3 or 4 while all those businesses (booking agencies) spend tons to be there.

Being non profit and established has its advantages in G.
