StumbleUpon Can Be A Good Source Of Traffic
I must admit, I've overlooked StumbleUpon in the past. But as this article points out, a lot of traffic that can come via this channel, if you have the right kind of content.

According to eBizMBA, StumbleUpon ranked at number 6 for the 30 most popular social bookmarking sites for July 2007. The site was ranked above both Slashdot and Reddit but still is one of the least appreciated sources of traffic. The reasons for this are because people misunderstand the nature of the site. Because StumbleUpon was conceived as, and continues to be a site that is heavily used to explore content consisting of art, design, and photography, people think that other kinds of content cannot become popular on the site.

Well I guess we would have to learn more about StumbleUpon. I got a good traffic to my fun pages from SU! Didn't see much traffic for SEO related articles...

StumbleUpon can be a good source of traffic and really proved to our site. But it is important to have a right content to your site.

Very well said. SU traffic is EASY to bring (not on all topics tho) but it is also well known easy to lose or better to say, hard to convert that traffic. I would not think of stumbling a website before you get a decent and healthy content that would keep users in your site, or, if offering services...you need to provide those users something that had not seen before. The traffic comes in one day and in the same way it leaves...get a picture.

SU is definitely a good traffic source. Whats nice about SU is that it can provide an initial traffic boost, then a residual traffic boost over time. Just make sure that your not the one who is primarily submitting your own content to stumble upon as doing this continuously is actually frowned upon. Stumbling your own article every once in awhile is ok, but if you submit only your articles to the service, guess what? Your looked at as a spammer and you risk being banned.
Here is a simple way to look at it. If your content is good enough, someone will submit it to stumbleupon for you.

I do believe StumbleUpon does make up a huge amount of traffic. As I can see from another forum, i.e. DP forums, that quite a number of users are using StumbleUpon to improve traffic.
However, one important to note is that these people simply bump onto your site, and generally they are there by random. So, whether your site may not necessarily capture their attention, and then off they go... stumbled to another site.
StumbleUpon does increase traffic, but not necessarily help in loyalty readers coming to your site.

True. The bounce off rate from SU traffic or DIGG traffic for that matter is pretty darn high. I've heard of a few different strategies to try and change this but I think they are a bit too technical right now.

I personaly refuse to become a member at stumpleupon to spam my own sites, it's highly un-ethical and sabotages the very concept of that site.
Stumpleupon, and sites like it, are designed for internet consumers, for them to share what they find to be qulality, not for internet developers to spam their stuff.
Because of website owners using it as a way to get traffic, the overall qualty of the sites that are presented goes down and this sabotages the concept.
Having said that, I do get traffic from stumbleupon and I'm thankful for the fact that their members appreciate some of my pages, If a site is REALLY worth being listed there it will in a natural way, if not than it's just not exclusive or interesting enough and than you'd better look to improve it, instead of spamming it.
I always find it typical that so many people spam their seo related sites there, as if internet surfers who don't own sites, and who are the main target group of that concept, are interested in that stuff, it's just stupid spamming.

For the end-user, I mean the people those sites are designed for, none of them. All bookmarking sites are cluttered with crap spam.
The very concept of bookmarking sites has been destroyed by assclowns spamming their own worthless crap.
