Side effects??? Of URL rewriting...

Well the only thing URL rewrite does is make your URLs search engine friendly and they help them bots to easily crawl your web site! I don't think thats a side effect...

rank loss, pr loss??? well bro...PR wouldn't be passed if search engines find it difficult to crawl your website!

I'm dealing with a side effect of rewrites right now. We have to rewrite several different types of display pages for an e-commerce website.

For some reason, google keeps spidering > then displaying the versions of the page we don't want to display. We are going to try to change this by applying a 301 redirect to all the pages it wants to display to instead send Googlebot over to our new folder that we want displayed on the SERPS.

Hope it works.
