naming web pages within my website

hi guys and gals,im at the start of a new website, and i am wondering whether when im naming my web pages i.e page 1 is index then page 2 is
my gallery etc etc. is it better for search engines to name internal pages with no spaces ie mygallery. the reason im asking is my pages are going to be named by what they are.so when typed into a search engine the actual page name will be the same as the page title.will this help ranking? so spaces or no spaces that is the question folks ?????? thanks again

I am not sure i did understood your question. Anyway, lets say you have your website named "My Web Site" and you have a gallery page and you would want that gallery page to perform better in SERPs for the proper keywords i.e. My Gallery or Gallery, using Gallery or My Gallery as your title of the page will definitively help. You can also use the title as "My Gallery | My Web Site" but like this you will decrease the percentage of use of the keyword/phrase "My Gallery".

Anyway, yes, it is better to name the pages for their proper use, name a gallery page Gallery, and services page Services and fun page "Fun stuff" etc...

hhhhhmmmmm just learnt somthing new there i think. so if i use a specific word ie gallery over and over even for legitimate reasons, that word will decrease in search engine rankings because it is repeated over and over?

For pages' naming convention, I would advice you to try dashes. Which in your case, it is my-gallery.html etc. This will still make sense when users search for My gallery. Hope it clarifies your doubt

Using the dashes within urls

Agree, dashes are good for the search engines. at least so far.
I understand this is not your case, but it's always good to know there is limitation for the number of keywords to be connected with dashes. If it's 2 keywords - that's OK, but try to avoid 3, 4, 5 etc, connected with dashes.

Have a great day,
Peter

It doesn't matter if you use dashes or underscores, try to keep the name as short as possible with no more than three subfolders and of course always try to name your page a key word that you are targeting, but still make it an accurate description of the page.

Hello,

Be accurate on tagging your pages. Also take into consideration using keyword rich articles for SEO purposes. And also consider doing more marketing campaigns, having link backs, PPC, etc. is a good way of getting a good PR.
