Buying old sites works amazingly well.

Some fantastic tips (and article) from Aaron:

Quote:
* Buying old sites works amazingly well.
* Buying and redirecting sites works amazingly well.
* Paid links work amazingly well, and you have a strong brand or can tolerate a bit of risk you would be an idiot not to exploit that hole.
* Exact match domain names play a good role in helping a site rank for the associated keyword phrase.
* The supplemental results suck, but they don't want the portion of the web they throw into it to realize just how bad it sucks.
* The search results have a lot of hand editing in them. Hand editing is gratuitous for smaller websites, but they are afraid to edit out large corporations.

briggidere is on the right pathbriggidere is on the right path
I have been looking into buying older sites to re-direct them, but i am struggling to come to some "criteria" for buying them. How far down the serps do you go, what age is the domain, how much traffic is it getting, mininum PR etc?

I know all of these are a factor, but i just don't know how to value them properly.

If you already rank top 5 for your target terms, how big a difference is it going to make buying a site ranking 50 for the same term. Could it not just be worth buying links, writing articles & PPC instead of these?

We are in the times of domain authority business models. Its logical that old domain names work well.

Exactly, old domains works better than new ones... but at one moment age will not be so important any more in a domain life...

I think buying old domains and then flipping them into fresh websites and selling for profit, is going to be a really cool business of the future when Internet matures. Take analogy in Real Estate.
