Are SEO's refering to link bating as a positive term?
Creating organic backlinks by writing unique articles or making an interesting widget for your site that generates buzz seem to be acceptable forms of linkbaiting. What are some others ways SEO's consider link baiting positive?

I am not sure that would be an example of linkbait...would rather categorize it as "sponsored link" instead of linkbait.

Another way of linkbait (except content) could be giving something free, or having a product/software that has had success and other would like to recommend that product/software or your service.

Linkbaiting example is by giving free stuffs to the users (visitors/webmasters included) example...

Free downloads, free templates, etc... one example of link baiting, other by creating a good contents and attractive contents...

Regarding the topic title:
"Are SEO's refering to link bating as a positive term?"

I've always thought of the phrase as akin to "viral marketing". It has a negative ring to it but generally it means something positive.

Yes I had always thought of it as just another term for link spam until recently. Now I see its more like the content is the bait and the link is the hook.
