How can I help my site using posting in forums?

Hi,

I heard that if I write at forums and add link to my site it can help. However, on my Google toolbar I can see that internal pages of forum has zero PR so my question is –Is forum posting really helpful?

(I 'm aware that this is post in a forum so there is no need for smartass comments)

I believe forum posting is helpful. the way I see it, each post that has your link on it, is another backlink towards your site. something I'm not sure of, is if Google counts all of your links on the forum as just one backlink, or if all of the links are counted as seperate links?

Posting into forums with your signature will help your site to get indexed (faster).. plus you will get a quality backlinks to it because forums site has always a fresh and new content which is favorite to crawl by the bots/spider..

Well I know this... I bought a new domain name... got my site up and running then changed my sig using my new url and I was indexed on google the next day Yahoo took a week and msn I don't really know or care...

Now I own most of any keyword phrases used relating to my targeted local area and occupation.

Forum posting is one of the excellent strategies to get backlinks. To me, I put PR as my alternative way to attract more traffic and backlinks.

I actually would guess that google are not that easily fooled and they might be giving forum signatures lesser weight in their page rank alog.
It sure helps my site, but I think that if I had about 3000 posts or something, it will be much better.

Not only backlinks that you would gain from forum posting but friendship to co-members as well. A lot of knowledgeable people can help you when you are in need of help.

Thats the essence of all, not just the backlink you will get, of course every single backlink is a + for your site (exception of backlinks from bad neighborhoods). But creating a fluent communication, healthy comments, sensed and informative threads is what is the most important part of being a part of a forum/community which has more value than just a single back link pointing to your site.
