Paid Links Are Evil

Informative summary of the "Are Paid Links Evil" session at SES.

http://www.bruceclay.com/blog/archiv...aid_links.html

Quote:
Matt says that asking if paid links are evil or not is the wrong question. He says the right question is, “Do paid links that pass PageRank violate search engines’ quality guidelines?” The answer to that is yes.
Well, he would say that, wouldn't he.

Michael Gray:

Quote:
He compares Matt saying Don’t Buy Links to Ronald McDonald saying Don’t Buy A Whopper. Google has overstepped its bounds. Google’s mission statement is not to tell you how to build your Web site. It’s not to tell you how to buy or sell ads. It’s not to tell you how to run your business.
When Michael finishes, he gets a standing ovation.....

I agree with him...and hope that google is not asking me to change the colours of my websites to improve SERPs in a few years...

It is funny tho that also Google says "We won't tell you what to do with your website, so don't tell us what to do with our indexer"

Anyway nice share as always Peter

Nice job, Graywolf... This is great: "...Google is not the government. They have no authority to dictate policy to you. They are a for-profit company."

I think it depends on the links... Bad for Google if it's not relevant...

The problem you have is you are playing Google's game.

They make the rules, change the rules - and not tell you the rules.

They pretty much get to call the shots - unless another competitor gains dominance to usurp their authority.
