I don't see any of the search search engines favouring page length as a major ranking factor.
Secondly, we can increase the length so long as we're being "informative"? So, if an article sucks, keep it under 250 words?
Articles need to be as long, or as short, as they need to be. If what you're writing is interesting, then people will keep reading.
Really, the key is to be interesting, rather than worrying about arbitrary word lengths.
