I have moved server several times in my life and if you don't change the structure of your site when you move and if you get the DNS changes right, it shouldn't affect your SERPs at all.

I wrote this article for Linux.com a couple of years ago, but it is still very much valid today. It doesn't cover SERPs but it does tell you how to move correctly.

How to migrate your Linux Web site to another hosting company

Thanks,

Gary

It can hurt, once in a while.
I've seen it once, but the site came back fairly quickly.
I usually, assign a tech to help someone switching to our servers to avoid offending the search engine gods and do everything they can to make the switch as fast and painless as possible.

The best way to avoid it is to get a good host to begin with (plenty of bandwidth, support for all the applications you need or may need in the future. It may cost a bit more monthly to get a good host, but it's nice to know if your online business takes off, you don't have to switch and you can actually call someone for help.

I still don't change my hosting thats why i really don't know the effect. but i do read some stuffs regarding this matter here and to other forums that changing your hosting company will somehow affect your rankings.. so i guess trust only those who had an experience regarding this matter.. and pinkfluffybunny had a nice response on this..

thanks for the advice guys,
I was hoping that everyone would say that changing would be fine but now i think i might stick with my original server and pay the higher costs even though the service is not great.

If you are redirecting your pages to the new hosting server then it won't affect your current positions in SERPs. Or else it may be affected for some temporary period…….as long as the spider is not crawling.

I have switched hosting servers before and never had a problem with rankings. Just make sure that you have your complete site setup on the new host before you decide to point the dns to the new hosting server.
