The current trend among SEO advisors is to advise clients to link to nobody else, if they can get away with it. All to satisfy their very narrow, myopic SEO theories about one-way linking and PR bleeding and bad neighborhoods, and all the rest. That is not what the World Wide Web is about. None of that kind of talk existed before engines began evaluating links.

I'm a great believer in giving forward when it comes to linking. Link out. Generate goodwill and it comes back. Link hogs give - and receive - nothing.

Completely agree. Those in the sales business will know that BNI operates on the giver's gain philosophy. Give and you shall receive. Be greedy and nobody will want to give you anything.

Biggest problem I have with clients is getting them to be actively involved in writing content. If they include links in the content, that is usually just fine. If it all about links, then I get a little concerned in the current environment. You need a nice balance of content and links in your strategy.
